The Syrinx CS content management system is the hub for the main functionality of the platform, from managing articles and the media library to file downloads. This robust system has a wide array of functions which enable simple, but precise customization. Whether they are used from the inception of a site, or as it grows, the rich slate of tools in Syrinx CS is always at the ready. There is no need to supplement with plug-ins or other add-ons to the system.
From customized fields and site categories to multimedia content, the free Syrinx CS platform provides a more sophisticated alternative to basic, entry-level options. Its features enable site customization and diversity without the complexity and cost of top level systems.
The master view of a Syrinx CS site is in the article management system. This feature enables site administrators to create, edit and review content in series of separate, flexible files. Here, everything from text and forms to multimedia files can be added to pages.
Each article can be customized to accommodate the information it supports. Information may be presented as text alone, or enhanced with elements such as videos, slide shows, images and more.
Article view can also be varied, depending on the complexity of the content. For example, a commerce site may use text and a single image to sell a simple product and a series of pages, photos and slide shows to describe more complicated, expensive items. Different templates can be created to display items in a variety of formats, including thumbnail and summary views.
Syrinx CS also has the capability to vary article permissions by user and to display custom author attribution. Articles are posted immediately and attributed to the user by default. When further customization is needed, different authors can be attached to content, and it can be scheduled to publish on a specific date.
Viewing permission for content can also be varied, depending on the needs of the site owner. A certain level of content may be available to all users, while other articles may only appear to subscribers or premium members. Syrinx CS can also be programmed to show teaser articles so that users may sample content before committing to membership.
Submission forms may be added to articles as well. Each time a user completes a form, the system generates an email with the content which goes to the site administrator. This user information can be viewed within the program as well.
Syrinx CS also offers flexibility in the way content is labeled. All articles can be titled separately, which enables customization at the most precise level. A browser title will default to what is in the text, but it can also be customized to display different content.
Categories can be defined for articles. They may also contain custom properties, such as for review forms with a rating system or products with a certain presentation format. Each new article type may be configured to specifically meet the needs of the content it is meant to display. These categories can help to create consistency among document types. They also help to speed the process of creating new content by providing a template for each article type.
It is easy to change categories. When one element is changed in an existing category, it will be reflected in all content across the site. If changes need to be reversed, the old information can simply be restored from any of your existing backups.
The media gallery page helps site administrators to manage, edit and organize images and video files. It provides a place to upload images and videos, and to customize the way they are presented on the site.
Once image size and quality have been entered into the system, several images in varied sizes can be downloaded and made identical to that size and shape. With one action, a watermark can be added to all of the images on a site and it is just as simple to change or remove that mark as needed.
Images can also be enhanced with overlays which integrate with the images on a site, providing a foreground or backdrop for more dynamic content presentation. Photos, slide shows and other media can be layered in a wide array of styles. There are even options which enable users to customize their own browsing experience with different views and content blends.
Slide Show Editor
The slide show editor has a diverse group of tools which can be used to fine tune presentations to the smallest detail. Elements that can be defined include the length of time a slide is displayed, the amount of time between slides and how scroll, fade and other features are used to present each frame. Content can be customized for each slide, so that special requirements, such as displaying a slide longer than the others or fading slowly from a specific view can be programmed.
There are also options for inserting layers of different media over slides, including animation, words and images. Integrated elements can be programmed to create seamless layers of content that work together on a specific timeline.
The slideshow editor takes administrators through each step of the creation process. A bar at the top of the page shows a filmstrip of the show in progress, which eases the process of creation and editing. These images can be dragged, dropped and deleted as desired.
User Content Flow
Syrinx CS can also manage the flow of user content. It has options for connecting multiple articles, such as different screens for applications or questionnaires, so that they progress in a specific order. Once this content has been provided by a user, it can be automatically sent to the administrator in a single message. It is also possible to view all user-generated responses within the system.
Content flows can be programmed for test mode as well, so that they can collect answers and calculate scores. There are also options for creating practice exams where the user can enter answers multiple times.
Article Recycle Bin
For systems with multiple, temporary or less experienced users, the article recycle bin can be a useful safety net. It is a place to store articles that should no longer be published on the site, but do not need to be deleted entirely. Material in the recycle bin can be easily restored to the site. Once the contents of the bin have been deleted, they are permanently removed from the site.
